First Law - Follow the HB Community Guidelines. If the Chat Thread is to remain in General it must follow the same rules as any other thread - No Exceptions - As it would be one of the first threads stumbled upon by new users it must set a good example.
Review the Guide Lines here http://forums.hummingbird.me/t/community-guidelines/5897
Second Law - No Indecent Content! No Hentai no Ecchi Gifs or Images. That also means no indecent Role Playing. Now not saying there is not a place for that content but lets say that if you need to post a image that fits the NSFW nature do a post as such.
NSFW Link to image
Or spoiler tag it if of a borderline NSFW nature. (Swimsuits are ok as stated by the moderators this mostly applies to images of the sexual variety)
image
This will allow users who find that kind of content inappropriate to avoid it all together. DO NOT EMBED THE IMAGE TO THE SITE! if it is blatant NSFW this effects the entire site negativity if done so.
Third Law - No name calling in a rude or hurtful manner to users of this thread. This site is filled with good and friendly users and we want to set the best example we can.
This also applies to sharing personal information of another user, that also is a violation of the Community Guidelines that was linked above and sharing Personal Messages does count as sharing personal information.
When an argument or conversation becomes personal, it needs to be moved to an another place (Skype/email ext.), preferably PM's.
If you notice this rule being violated contact a mod immediately if the person violating this rule continues to do so. That is what the mods are there for.
Fourth Law - No Meme Spamming
Memes can be good fun and all, but it gets to the point when if all that is being posted is memes it can drag the entire thread down.
How do you know if you are meme spamming? If every post of yours or every other post you make contains a meme image. It is fine to indulge in a little bit of memeing, but if it's all you are doing, then it might be worth putting the memes down and join into one of the ongoing conversations or start one.
Remember this is a "Chat Thread" not a "Meme Thread".
Fifth Law - No False Flagging to quote @ryn
You can't be off-topic in the chat thread, and I'd go so far as to say it's difficult to spam (unless it's something blatant like pictures, gifs, links.) So please don't flag posts under these categories, it negatively impacts you, not the person you flagged.
While you may not be able to go off topic on the chat thread, there is still a point when spamming something on it becomes flag worthy.
- Gif Bombs (posting 4-5 images is fine in a single post)
- A triple to sextuple post (You can @ a user and quote them if contextually needed. This can be considered violating a guideline but more so just annoying to most users and frowned upon by the staff such as by Josh and Vik)
- Repeatedly spamming the same image or comment etc (example meme spamming can be considered this).
Flagging comments will only hurt the Chat Thread and may push us back to Misc again, so try to resolve things decently. This also applies to the first through fourth law
Self moderation was introduced back in Chat Thread 2.1 and is a system put in place so users can enforce the laws. If you spot a post that violates the law inform the person doing so in a polite and decent manner.
Such has hey that post has x___ please can you remove or edit that post. Insert Reason
If you like insert a sad gif so your post is easy to spot by the person.
If they have changed their post change your gif to a happy one to make a positive reinforcement of the change!
Thanks to @Jim for promoting a thread for these rules
Thanks to @2cool4fun for the amendments
If any mod wants to make any amendments to these Laws go right ahead but sign the thread where I did to let use know you amended the changes and so we know who amended what
