It's funny, I had this one friend who switched from MAL to Hummingbird, and said that HB has a better community.
Well, HB certainly has a more in-my-face community thanks to the dashboard.
On MAL, I can just ignore the community features, and simply use it as a way to catalogue what anime series I've seen. And that's exactly what I did. Okay, I joined a few groups a while back, but whatever.
On HB, on the other hand, it's all about the community. Which is nice if you like the community, I guess, but if you don't like the site asking you to join the striped panties group all the time or bombarding you with what fandom stuff other people are doing (which is partly my own fault since I +follow'd them in the first place, admittedly), then it's less fun.
HB's interface is different from MAL's, but I prefer MAL's more for adding and updating series. Especially adding.
