Alright, so you guys are finally using the flag tool, that's great! You know what's not great? All the misflags you fuckin' plebs, but hey, I guess it must be hard to read the rules and use your head, I understand. Life might be hard, but common sense is even harder! Thankfully your forum hero turnip will show you how to correctly identify a bad post and show you through a system that I myself use when flagging posts!
First thing you need to do... is read the guidelines 'cause t's not sticky'd for no reason, give that guy a read before you misflag another post. Read the post? I hope you didn't flag it because that post was perfectly legal. Now Ryatt has a guide on flaggin' but I think it's shit and not working good enough so I'll make another.
Since that you've read the guidelines, well you're pretty much set in life and can flag posts, but hey, I know some of you guys might be a little slow in the head so I'll go through some much needed examples (I got tons!).
Here we have a community flagged post, that means it's gotten 3 flags and it got hidden. So why did it get flagged? Give it a read, you see that's "thread criticism", criticism on hummingbird often gets confused with animal abuse, rape, murder, sexual assault or some other terrible crime. But sadly, criticism is not actually any of those, alright break time, I hope that you digest that bit of information so give that part a re-read to help remember that. Now back to it, he's trying to Improve the Discussion because Your Participation Counts, whether it's negative or not. So he's actually made a perfectly fine and reasonable post.
The same thing can apply to flags, if you don't like his tone... Who gives a fuck, I don't like your whiny ass tone but I don't flag all your posts. Flag the content, not the tone.
Also ignore what Ratt said below, this is perfectly on topic, matter of fact, it's literally talking about the topic OP and title.
Now let's look at this post which was not flagged at all, I will keep the user anonymous but let's give it a look at what's wrong with this post. This post did not follow the Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree section. This post should have been flagged and removed. but it didn't, so I'll use this as an example on what you should flag! Yup, if you find this post ever again, make sure you give it a flag (unless it's edited into another message of course). That will help the community by removing the posts that aren't acceptable.
So recap! Negative criticism doesn't need to be flagged because it's perfectly legal and insults should be flagged because they are not legal posts and break guidelines!
Here's another community flagged post and this is a tough one. I said myanimelist. What does this mean? This means it will probably get flagged for spam. But why? It's perfectly legal in all ranges if anything it's probably just a snarky post pointing out that the site's competitor has got something this site doesn't. Well you might not believe it but this might often get confused with child rape, domestic violence or underage internet pornography. Sadly, this post doesn't actually fall under those catergories, this post is only negative criticism on the site. So again they flagged the tone, not the content. So this is another misflag by the community.
Also ignore what Ratt said below, this is perfectly on topic, matter of fact, it answered his question in case he really needed the feature, myanimelist can provide it for him.
So now that you read those 3 examples, I can tell you the main point of the thread because no way you'd skip to the last bit, when you're about to flag the post... Make sure it's against the guidelines and not because you're a lil bitch that didn't like their tone.
