While I'm not educated enough to speak about Islam and its effect on the European countries, this topic does remind me of certain gripes I have.
I guess the main one is that people who primarily define themselves by their religion are more often than not likely to be ignorant assholes.
Earlier, @accel mentioned how Christianity is in the US is somewhat synonymous to how Islam is in Europe and with that frame of reference in mind, I can really understand the problems you guys have.
While I personally believe that religion as an institute has certainly helped some people, I'm not nearly naive enough to try and act like it also hasn't been used as a means of oppression.
I guess what I'm getting at is that while "freedom of religion" is a nice phrase and it isn't really cool to persecute others for their faith, I wish the inverse was also considered more. Mainly, freedom to not participate in religion AKA religious people not throwing fucking fits because people don't live like they do.
I dunno man, I'm sleepy and shit. I feel like this is a really interesting topic though. Just wish my head was in the right place for it all.
