Like all belief systems you can treat Islam as a religion or as a culture.
Treated as a religion it is no more of a problem for them than christianity is for us. It becomes like "a hobby" - something you use as an anchor for your belief and your rituals, like marriage funeral and so on. But it is never involved in any real decisions.
Treated as a culture though Islam is highly toxic to scientific, economic and social development... and so is fundamental Christianity (vis a vis the Dark Middle Ages of Europe). Spending your entire life only reading one book doesn't make you smart, so a theocracy will invariably be a government of fools.
Yep, in the same way as Danes wear viking helmets when attending soccer games. But he leaders didn't read the Qur'an in order to make actual decisions.
I agree that the media aren't always to be trusted... and not only concerning Donald Trump
However I do have first hand experience and - believe it or not - quite a few friends in those areas whom I hold in high regard, despite the fact that I consider their culture a prehistoric leftover.
In my opinion a World War 3 - if it comes - will be between them and us. Hillary Clinton's policy of "enforcing peace and order" through Pax Americana has unfortunately become very popular lately, and it is because of all the trouble they cause. People are tired of it.
